Airbus in the U.S. has grown from a single, small sales office staff in New York City of fewer than a dozen people in 1978 to a growing nationwide network of 35+ Airbus and subsidiary sites across 13 states and the District of Columbia directly employing 4,600+ people. Facilities include two assembly lines that produce commercial airliners and helicopters; two engineering centers; aircraft spares facilities; training centers for pilots, crews and maintenance personnel; a subsidiary offering air traffic management products and services; and an innovation center. Airbus annually spends nearly $15 billion with more than 2,000 U.S.- based suppliers in more than 40 states supporting another 275,000 American jobs.
